Chad Lavender was born in Charleston, West Virginia. Raised just south of the capital city, church
was nothing new to him. His father, a deacon and teacher of the church, rarely missed a service,
and his mother epitomized Christian faith and strength. Coming from a line of Christian tradition—
his grandparents being chartered members of the church, an aunt and uncle who sang gospel
music, and ministers that spun from an uncle to a cousin to a brother-in-law—Chad was destined
to work for the Lord.

After receiving a scholarship for his heritage, Chad began classes at West Virginia State University
in the fall of 1999, studying the business field of accounting. During his tenure at WVSU Chad
received academic honors such as Who’s Who among college students, All-American Scholars, and
an induction into Phi Theta Kappa an international honor society. He also held the position of
Director of Finance of the university’s student government.

WRITING
Books and writing had always been a passion for him since the days of his youth. Around the age
of sixteen he began writing song lyrics and poetry.

In his freshman year of college his desire for writing came back to him. Even though it wasn’t his
major, he started toying with writing a story. Something that started in a little Subway booth has
slowly evolved into his current work in progress. A story that doesn’t resemble today what it once
did in that freshman year of college.

Writing off and on for several years, Chad had never gained a true commitment to the craft until
the late winter of 2006. In that year alone he’s learned and progressed more than the prior ten
years of writing. Owing it all to the grace of God, and the people that He has placed in Chad’s life,
has inspired and directed him on his incredible journey thus far.

While working as a mild mannered accountant by day, Chad toils over the pen and pad (or in
today's society, a computer keyboard) at night. His accounting job for a petroleum products
company during the day provides a steady income for his family, but yet his work for the Lord is at
night. He one-day hopes that his nightly work will transpire to his daily job.

FAMILY
In 2003, Chad married the love of his life and within the first three years of their marriage they
expanded their family with two adoring daughters, all of whom hold a special place in his heart.
His family and friends continue to provide faith and support with all his endeavors.

MINISTRY
In the same year of his marriage Chad finally succumbed to the calling of the Lord. It was
something that he had run from for as long as he could. In 2004, he was licensed to preach the
gospel of Jesus Christ, and in 2005, ordained by the Boone County Free Will Baptist Conference.
Along with his family, Chad enjoys the family like atmosphere at Little Creek Free Will Baptist
Church in Chelyan, West Virginia. Chad preaches as often as possible including once every month
at his home church. He also has put together special services and skits such as a Passover Service,
International Day of Prayer service, and Pastor Appreciation services.

In 2006, God instilled a strong desire in Chad’s heart to write for His purpose. Finally, in the late
summer God made his intentions clearer, and Chad began constructing his non-profit organization
RISE UP ALLIANCE, which features the free online magazine, RISE UP MAGAZINE.
