REVIEW:
Holy highfalutin’ hyper-powers! Isn’t it every comic book junkie’s dream come
true to become his favorite superhero? When four “real-life” comic book nerds
are gifted with super-power suits, they are ecstatic. However, they soon
discover that to whom much is given, much is required. The League of
Superheroes is going to captivate sci-fi/comic book/superhero fans with super-
humor, super-action, super-deadly danger, and supernatural involvement.
Take four normal high school boys; okay, so they’re not exactly normal. Each
one is nerdy in his own way, with his own particular gifts. A polyglot, a math
and science genius, a computer whiz, and a conscience with outstanding
spiritual insight. These four friends hang out together, imagining themselves to
be superheroes from their favorite comics - until Genie comes along and turns
dreams into reality.
League of Superheroes is an appealing story in many ways. Foremost is an
appeal to comic aficionados and anyone who longs for heroes. It is an
intelligent project that employs a good dose of humor (Stephen L. Rice is
infamous for his puns). While it is often lofty in its scientific portions, the
language and character of the boys is believable and “normal.” It contains
plenty of action, a well-developed plot, three-dimensional characters, and a
bonus of strong spiritual content. Above all, these boys from four different
denominational backgrounds take a strong stand for Jesus. “What would Jesus
do” is much more than a bumper sticker or bracelet slogan for them. Their faith
is tested as is their reliance upon God.
Although League of Superheroes deals with teenagers and is considered a
Young Adult offering, grown-ups are going to be fascinated with it as well.

SUMMARY:
Four teenaged computer geeks imagine themselves to be superheroes from
their favorite comics. Their role-playing takes an unexpected turn after they
meet Genie online. She is a confused and lonely little girl with outstanding
intellect, beyond that of the boys put all together, perhaps beyond anyone in
the world. One by one, Genie constructs super suits and sends them to the
boys, finding a way to give them the powers for each of their favorite
characters, even improving upon the comic book versions. The guys, a little
sister and Genie are involved in a series of adventures: wrongs to right, crimes
to prevent, and dangerous experiences. Before long, however, the boys realize
Genie is in great danger. The League of Superheroes must save Genie, and the
world.
